This paper studies the link between the multisymplectic formalism and the covariant formalism in classical field theory. The lack of covariance is one of the main defects of the usual canonical formalism in field theory. Following the ideas of Cinkovic-Witten and Zuckerman, the authors etablish a link between the multisymplectic and the covariant phase space approach to geometric field theory. In particular, they prove, as main result of the paper, that the Poisson bracket associated with the symplectic structure is precisely the covariant bracket due to Peierls and DeWitt.
