Let \(E\) be an elliptic curve defined over a field \(k\) of characteristic zero. Let \(\mathbf{DM}_{gm}(k,\mathbb{Q})\) denote Voevodsky's triangulated category of motives with rational coefficient. For the category of motives generated by Tate objects, \textit{S. Bloch} and \textit{I. Kříž} [Ann. Math. (2) 140, No. 3, 557--605 (1994; Zbl 0935.14014)] provided a method of constructing an abelian category of mixed Tate motives, based on the philosophy that the Tannakian fundamental group of the category should be an extension of a prounippotent algebraic group \(U\) by the multiplicative group \(\mathbb{G}_m\). They give an explicit description of the group \(U\) in term of ``cyclic algebras''. In the present paper, the author constructs ``elliptic cycle algebras'' in order to handle the full idempotent complete rigid tensor triangulated subcategoy of \(\mathbf{DM}_{gm}(k,\mathbb{Q})\) generated by the motive of \(E\). Since the multiplicative group \(\mathbb{G}_m\) should be replaced by \(\mathrm{GL}_2\) in this case, he studies the cdga (= commutative differential graded algebra) object in the category of \(\mathrm{GL}_2\)-representations. Furthermore he clarifies the connection of his construction and Block-Kriz construction. Namely he shows that the embedding of the triangulated category of mixed Tate motives into motives for \(E\) can be understood as a map between the derived categories of dg modules, which is induced by the inclusion of a subalgebra, which corresponds to a cycle algebra for mixed Tate motives, into the elliptic cycle algebra.
