The title problem is addressed where the authors consider the planar motion of an harmonic oscillator where the vibration point moves on ellipses known as ``Cassini ovals''. (A Cassini oval is the locus of all points whose distances from two fixed points have a constant product.) The form of these ovals depend solely on the initial velocities. The analysis is clear. The writing is good and there are numerous remarks as an aid to the reader. The paper should be readily accessible to vibration analysts. Although the results are interesting and somewhat unexpected, it is not clear what the application might be except to obtain greater insight into planar periodic vibrations. The paper should be of interest and use to vibration theorists.
