Reprising Conway's elegant analysis of the tangle structure of classical 2-bridge knots, this paper extends it to rational links in the solid torus, adding also some interesting invariants of colored diagrams of the Kauffman bracket skein module of an oriented surface. Unfortunately, its reference to Bankwitz's seminal work on this subject (miscited by the English language translators of Reidemeister's 1932 book ``Knotentheorie'' and unavailable at the time of its original publication) is marred by a typo. The correct title of that important 1934 paper is ``Über Viergeflechte''. Not an easy read, it foreshadowed the later work of Schubert, Conway, Burde and this reviewer in explaining such links from the standpoint of the linking numbers between branch curves of their ``Fox \(p\)-colored'' (i.e., dihedral) covering spaces.
