The paper gives an analysis of an open problem of interpolation by functions of model subspaces in \(H^1\). Starting from an interpolation with an inner function \(\theta\) on the open unit disk \(\mathbb D\) in the complex plane \(\mathbb C\), an analogue is studied replacing \(\theta\) by a Blaschke product \(B\). For an inner function \(\theta\) the associated model subspace is defined for \(1\leq p \leq\infty\) by putting \(K_\theta^p=H^p\cap\theta\overline{H^p_0}\), where \(H^p_0\) is the shifted space \(zH^p\) and the bar denotes complex conjugation. Replacing by an interpolating Blaschke product \(B\), the problem was solved for \(1 < p < \infty\), and studied for \(p=\infty\) by the author in [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 50, No. 3, 477--486 (2018; Zbl 1401.30061)]. Here the study is made for \(p=1\) starting from a conjecture and some associated interpolation problems, analyzing the problem, for a given interpolating Blaschke product \(B\) with zeros \(\{a_j\}\), to characterize the sequences \(\{w_j\}\) for which the interpolation problem \(f(a_j)=w_j\) can be solved with functions \(f\) from \(H^1\cap B\overline{H^1_0}\) of the Hardy space \(H^1\).
