Fix a point \(m\) of a symplectic manifold \((M,\omega)\) with a proper \(G\)-action and an (equivariant) moment map \(\Phi_G\). The Witt-Artin decomposition is a (non-canonical) \(G\)-invariant decomposition of the tangent space \(T_mM\) as \(T_0\oplus T_1\oplus N_0\oplus N_1\) that puts \(\omega_m\) in a specific form. Here \(T_0\oplus T_1\) is the tangent space to the \(G\)-orbit, \(T_0\) is tangent to the \(\Phi_G\)-fiber, and similarly \(N_0\) is tangent to the \(\Phi_G\)-fiber. The summand \(N_1\) is a symplectic subspace called symplectic slice, which can be understood in terms of symplectic reduction. The symplectic slice appears also in the Symplectic Tube Theorem, which gives a normal form for \(\omega\) in a \(G\)-invariant neighborhood of the orbit through \(m\). Now let \(H\) be a Lie subgroup of \(G\). In general there is no direct relation between a Witt-Artin decomposition of \(T_mM\) for the \(G\)-action and one for the \(H\)-action. Notice that \(\dim(N_1)\le \dim(\tilde{N}_1)\), where \(\tilde{N}_1\) denotes the symplectic slice for the \(H\)-action. The author shows that, under the additional assumption that the isotropy group \(G_m\) acts on \(H\) by conjugation, there exist compatible Witt-Artin decompositions. In particular, \(\tilde{N}_1\) can be chosen as a direct sum of \(N_1\) with two other subspaces which carry clear interpretations.
