Let \(h\) and \(k\) be natural numbers. For all asymptotic bases \(A\) of order \(h\) and for all subsets \(X\subseteq A\), \(| X|=k\) such that \(A\setminus X\) is still an asymptotic basis of finite order, let \(g_ k(h)\) denote the maximum of asymptotic orders of all these sets \(A\setminus X\) if it exists. Using Kneser's theorems for sumsets and for Abelian groups the existence of \(g_ k(h)\) is proved by upper estimates for \(g_ k(h)\) depending on \(h\) and \(k\). It is also shown that \(g_ 1(3)=7\), \(g_ 2(3)=13\), \(g_ 1(h)\leq {1\over 2} (h^ 2+3h)\) and \(g_ k(2)=2k+2\). This paper is part of the author's doctoral dissertation ``Results on bases in additive number theory'', New Brunswick, N.J. 1985.
