A 2-manifold of genus 8 without the \(W_ v\)-property (Q1801634)

A polyhedral complex is said to have the \(W_ v\)-property if any two vertices can be joined by a path whose intersection with each face is connected. Any polyhedral 2-manifold of low genus has the \(W_ v\)- property according to recent work of the author and L. Engelhardt. This paper gives an example of a polyhedral map on a surface of genus 8 which does not have the \(W_ v\)-property. It is a modification of a certain pinched sphere where the 8 pinch points are replaced by 8 handles, orientable or nonorientable.
