This is a relatively long paper devoted to the re-examination of a proposed methodology for computational plasticity at finite strains. The authors suggest that the methods they study have general applicability in geomechanical examples, and illustrate their results with three examples: 1. Shear band formation in soil specimens; 2. Rigid footings; 3. Pile penetration simulation. The paper is clearly written and well illustrated and should be of interest to both practical and theoretical soil mechanicians.
