      A pure majority algebra is an algebra \({\mathcal A} = (A;m)\) where \(m\) is a ternary operation such that \(m(x,x,y) = m(x,y,x) = m(y,x,x) = x\). Using results on projective planes the authors show the following theorem. There are \(2^{\aleph_ 2}\) distinct varieties of pure majority algebras \({\mathcal A}_ \lambda\), \(\lambda < 2^{\aleph_ 2}\), such that the classes \({\mathcal A}_ \lambda \cap M^ m\) are all distinct, where \(M^ m\) denotes the class of all lower-median-reducts of modular lattices.
