The authors analyze phase transition problems in materials with memory by adding a memory term to the heat flux. The internal energy is allowed to depend on the phase variable. First, by considering the equilibrium condition at the interface between two phases, the authors deal with the Stefan problem with memory effects. Second, superheating and supercooling phenomena are considered. By fixed point arguments, existence and uniqueness is proved for the second problem. By allowing the kinetic parameter to vanish, an existence and uniqueness result is proved for the former Stefan problem.
