This paper is concerned with the general theory and applications of relaxational oscillations. It consists of four chapters. In Chapter 1, the authors consider the relaxational systems and the corresponding relay systems with small perturbation of a special definite form, and prove the \(C^ 1\)-proximity theorem of solutions of relay systems and relaxational systems. The authors apply this theorem to the problem of uniqueness of a multi-dimensional relaxational cycle and construct the complete asymptotic form of a trajectory in the neighborhood of a discontinuity point. Moreover, the authors also consider other applications. Chapter 2 introduces the concept of relaxational parabolic systems, similar to that of Chapter 1, the authors describe the \(\mathbb{C}^ 1\)- proximity theorem of solutions of relay parabolic systems and relaxational parabolic systems, and then, the authors give a criterion of stability of a homogeneous space cycle and apply this criterion to a series of bio-physical problems. In Chapter 3, by means of the asymptotic method of Krylov-Bogolyubov- Mitropol'skij, the authors construct the normal form of a map in the neighborhood of a fixed point, and then apply this result to bifurcation problems of inhomogeneous space periodic solutions. In Chapter 4, the authors discuss multi-dimensional relaxational oscillation systems in the case where the normal switching condition is violated, and apply the results to van der Pol systems with a slowly varying variable, and give a visualized description of the theories. There is a bibliography of 53 items.
