The author studies various notions of generalized continuity using the system of paths introduced in \textit{A. M. Bruckner}, \textit{R. J. O'Malley} and \textit{B. S. Thomson} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 283, 97-125 (1984; Zbl 0541.26003)] which he modifies as follows: Let \(x\in\mathbb{R}\). A path leading to \(x\) is a set \(E_x\subset\mathbb{R}\) such that \(x\in E_x\) and \(x\) is a point of bilateral accumulation of \(E_x\). For \(x\in\mathbb{R}\) let \({\mathcal E}(x)\) be a family of paths leading to \(x\). A system of paths is a collection \({\mathcal E}=\{{\mathcal E}(x):x\in \mathbb{R}\}\) such that each \(E_x\in {\mathcal E}(x)\) for every \(x\in\mathbb{R}\). A function \(f:\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}\) is called \({\mathcal E}\)-continuous at \(x\in\mathbb{R}\) if there exists a path \(E\in {\mathcal E}(x)\) such that \(f|_E\) is continuous at \(x\). Maximal additive, multiplicative, and lattice like classes of \({\mathcal E}\)-continuous functions are studied in this note. [See also the supplement to this article reviewed below].
