Free vibration of a SDOF system with hysteretic damping (Q1804392)

The authors propose a solution method for the equation \(m\ddot u+ h|u|\dot u/|\dot u|+ ku= P(t)\), where \(m\), \(h\), \(k\) are positive constants. A closed form solution is given for free vibrations (i.e. \(P=0\)). As examples, diagrams are given for: 1) displacement history for disturbance of initial displacement only and initial velocity only; 2) velocity history for disturbance of initial displacement only and initial velocity only; 3) phase plane for disturbance of initial displacement only and initial velocity only.
