The possibility of operating primary resonances by adding excitations with asynchronous frequencies to nonlinear systems with only one main excitation is studied. A single degree-of-freedom system with piecewise-linear characteristics is considered under the action of both parametric and forced excitations with asynchronous frequencies. With respect to the choice of additional frequencies, two methods to investigate the problem are proposed, and the operational effect is compared with that in nonlinear systems of \(x^n\) type. Depending on system parameters and additional excitations, a property that resonance amplitudes are suppressed in some partial-frequency regions and in one wide-frequency region, is recognized. The partial suppression and wide-zone suppression differ from reduction of resonance amplitudes and contraction of whole resonance curves. The investigation of vibrational phenomena is performed by numerical calculations.
