It is well-known that scalar-tensor theories of gravity can be formulated in the Jordan or Einstein frame, which are conformally related. By considering gravitational waves, the authors argued that the Einstein frame is more favorable, as the weak energy condition is violated in the Jordan frame but not in the Einstein frame.
