It is shown that the center \(C(M)\) of an irreducible algebraic monoid \(M\) is unit regular, i.e., for any \(a\in C(M)\) there exists an element \(g\) from the unit group of \(C(M)\) such that \(a=aga\). Moreover if \(M\) is reductive (i.e., the unit group of \(M\) is reductive) then \(C(M)\) is equal to the intersection of all diagonalizable submonoids of \(M\).
