The authors use the variational method to prove the existence of generalized solutions to the nonlocal semilinear Tricomi problem \[ Tu:=-yu_{xx}-u_{yy}= R\bigl(\text{sign}(u)|u|^p \bigr)\text{ in }\Omega,\quad u=0 \text{ on }AC\cup\sigma,\tag{*} \] where \(p\in\mathbb{R}\), \(0<p<1\). The region \(\Omega \subset\mathbb{R}^2\) is symmetric with respect to the \(y\)-axis, where the boundary \(\partial \Omega\) consists of a smooth curve \(\sigma\) in \(y>0\) with endpoints \(A (-x_0,0)\) and \(B(x_0,0)\) and the characteristics of (*) issued from \(A\) and \(B\) which intersect at \(C(0,y_c)\) on the \(y\)-axis. With \(\varphi(x,y):=(-x,y): \mathbb{R}^2 \to\mathbb{R}^2\) it is assumed \(R(u):=u\circ \varphi:L^2 (\Omega)\to L^2 (\Omega)\). Using the \((a,b,c)\)-method and spaces of positive and negative norms, a-priori estimates are obtained from which the existence of at least one generalized solution of problem (*) follows.
