The Ginzburg-Landau equation considered in this paper has the form \[ u_t=\rho u+(1+i\nu)\Delta u+L(u;\alpha, \beta,\sigma, \vec\lambda_1, \vec \lambda_2)\tag{1} \] where \(\rho,\nu\) are real parameters and \(L\) is a nonlinear operator of first order in \(u\) depending on real parameters \(\alpha,\beta, \sigma\) and real vectors \(\vec\lambda_1, \vec\lambda_2\). The unknown \(u\) is a complex valued function depending on \(t\) and on the two-dimensional spatial variable; it is subjected to the initial condition (2) \(u(x,0)= u_0(x)\) and (3) the condition of \(\Omega\)-periodicity in the space variable \(x\), where \(x\in \Omega=(0,L_1) \times(0,L_2)\). The theorem, proved in the paper by the Galerkin method, claims as follows: If \(u_0\in L^2(\Omega)\) and \(\sigma\geq \sigma_0\) (with \(\sigma_0\) given in the formulation of the theorem), then there exists a weak solution of (1)--(3) defined for \(t\geq 0\) and \(x\in\Omega\). For this solution an energy inequality is proved.
