This is an important paper: it demonstrates that a whole range of combinatorial geometry problems, such as the problems ``of Tverberg type'', can profitably be formulated in terms of families of sections of real vector bundles with (usually) Grassmannian base spaces. The power of this approach is demonstrated by many simple examples, but also by proving a substantial, non-trivial special case of the (very general and far-reaching) Tverberg-Vrećica conjecture [\textit{H. Tverberg} and \textit{S. Vrécica}, Eur. J. Comb. 14, 259-264 (1993; Zbl 0777.52005)], using as the core tool a parameterized ideal-valued cohomological index theory, as well as the deleted join techniques of Sarkaria et al. We refer to \textit{R. T. Živaljević}'s ``User's guide to equivariant methods in combinatorics'' [Publ. Inst. Math., Nouv. Ser. 59(73), 114-130 (1996; Zbl 0946.52001)] for an introduction to such tools.
