The non-abelian homology of groups is the study of the non-abelian derived functors of the non-abelian tensor product of groups, thus it generalises classical Eilenberg-MacLane homotopy, and work of \textit{D. Guin} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 50, No. 2, 109-137 (1988; Zbl 0653.20051)]. The non-abelian tensor product construction arose out of the generalised van Kampen theorem of \textit{R. Brown} and \textit{J.-L. Loday} [Topology 26, 311-335 (1987; Zbl 0622.55009)] but related constructions and special cases were already in existence in work of Dennis (1976) and Lue (1976). The version used in this paper is slightly more general than that introduced by Brown and Loday, and was first used by the second author [\textit{N. Inassaridze}, Theory Appl Categ. 2, Nr. 5, 55-61 (1996; Zbl 0869.20017)]. Let \(A\) and \(B\) be arbitrary groups which act on themselves by conjugation and also on each other. The group \(A\otimes B\) is then generated by symbols \(a\otimes b\) satisfying relations related to the usual commutator relations (within the free product of \(A\) and \(B)\). Derived functors of this tensor product are defined using simplicial methods. Formulae for second and third non-abelian homology groups are obtained and a Mayer-Vietoris sequence is derived.
