The five-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell action is \[ I= \tfrac{1}{16\pi} \int d^5 x\sqrt{-g} \bigl( R+ \overline{\alpha} S= \tfrac 14 F^2\bigr), \] where \(S= R_{abcd} R^{abcd}- 4R_{ab} R^{ab}+ R^2\) is the Gauss-Bonnet term and \(\overline{\alpha}\) is a coupling constant. The field equations are \(G_{ab}+ \overline{\alpha} S_{ab}= T_{ab}^F\), where \[ \begin{aligned} S_{ab} &= 2R_{acde} R_b^{cde}- 4R_{acbd} R^{cd}- 4R_{ac}R_b{}^c+ 2RR_{ab},\\ T_{ab}^F &= \tfrac 12 F_{ac} F^c{}_b- \tfrac 18 R^2 g_{ab}. \end{aligned} \] Denoting the unit 3-sphere by \(d\Omega_3^2\), one finally gets \[ ds^2= \tfrac 1A (-\sin^2 \chi d\tau^2+ d\chi^2)+ \tfrac 1B d\Omega_3^2. \] The Euclidean continuation of this metric gives rise to an instanton describing black hole pair production.
