The non-crystallographic root system \({\mathcal H}_4\) consists of 120 elements, the vertices of the 600-cell which is a four dimensional regular polytope and has \(H_4\) as its reflection group. An explicit construction of \({\mathcal H}_4\) is given in terms of the root system \({\mathcal D}_4\) and suitably defined elements of length 2, denoted \(\alpha_1\), \(\alpha_2\), \(\alpha_3\) and \(\alpha_4\) of an \(A\)-submodule \(L\) of the Euclidean space \(\mathbb{R}^4\), with \(A=\mathbb{Z}[a]\) and \(a=\tfrac{1+\sqrt 5}2\) the golden ratio. One then has: \({\mathcal H}_4:={\mathcal D}_4\cup D_4\alpha_2\cup D_4\alpha_3\cup D_4\alpha_4\), where \(D_4\) is the Weyl group of \({\mathcal D}_4\) acting as an index-two subgroup of the group of all signed permutations of the coordinates of \(\alpha_2\), \(\alpha_3\) and \(\alpha_4\) with respect to an orthonormal basis of \(\mathbb{R}^4\).
