As stated in the preface, the goal of this book is to present to ``graduate students practical efficient techniques for solving engineering system optimization problems''. Topics include static and dynamic optimization (with possible constraints), numerical methods, the calculus of variations, linear systems (time optimal control, linear quadratic regulator), mechanical systems. Some computer programs are included at the end of the volume.
