Estimating the operator exponential (Q1808937)

The paper deals with the strongly continuous semigroup \(V(t)\) such that the strong integral \(X=\int^{\infty}_{0}V(t)^{\ast}V(t)dt\) represents an everywhere defined and therefore bounded self-adjoint operator. Such a semigroup generalizes the exponential function \(V(t)=e^{At}\) with a square matrix \(A\). The Hilbert space operator norm estimate (known also as the spectral norm estimate) and trace norm estimate for \(V(t)^{\ast}V(t)\) are proved. The results obtained improve the estimate given by the author in [Semigroup Forum 55, No. 3, 325-331 (1997; Zbl 0904.47031)].
