A more general family of stretched vortex solutions of three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations than Burgers vortices is constructed which have nonzero components of vorticity in radial, azimuthal, and axial directions. These components are stretched by a strain that is dynamically coupled to the pressure field. At the first stage, the authors consider a generalization of columnar flow. It is shown that an unusual decoupling between vorticity and two-dimensional part of velocity field takes place with strain rate satisfying a Riccati equation which is related to the second partial derivative of pressure which is constrained to be spatially uniform. To construct stretched vortex solutions of Burgers type, the strain field is choosen to be spatially uniform, too. The decoupling between vorticity and two-dimensional part of velocity field is exploited by applying Lundgren's transformation which maps the equation for vorticity onto an equation for general two-dimensional problem. Examples of solutions of Navier-Stokes and Euler equations are given to illustrate how solutions of basic two-dimensional equations can be used to construct the stretched vortices.
