The paper deals with the quantum groups \(U_q ({\mathfrak g})\) and with the affine quantum groups \(U_q (\widehat{\mathfrak g})\), where \({\mathfrak g}\) is a simple complex Lie algebra and \(\widehat{\mathfrak g}\) is a nontwisted affine Lie algebra corresponding to \({\mathfrak g}\). Denote by \(U_q({\mathfrak n})\) the subalgebra of \(U_q ({\mathfrak g})\) such that \({\mathfrak n}\) is a nilpotent Lie subalgebra of \({\mathfrak g}\) generated by the simple positive root generators of a Chevalley basis. \(U_q({\mathfrak n})\) has no characters taking nonvanishing values on all simple root generators of \({\mathfrak n}\) (non-singular characters). The author obtains a family of new realizations of the quantum group \(U_q ({\mathfrak g})\) labeled by Coxeter elements of the corresponding Weyl group, such that the natural counterpart of \(U_q ({\mathfrak n})\) do have non-singular characters. The similar results for \(U_q (\widehat{\mathfrak g})\) are obtained also. A possible application of the results is Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction for \(U_q (\widehat{\mathfrak g})\).
