The authors deal with the following globally coupled map (shortly GCM) of the form: \[ x_{n+1}(i)= (1-\varepsilon) f(x_n(i))+ \tfrac {\varepsilon}{N} \sum_{j=1}^N f(x_n(j)), \qquad i=1,2,\dots, N, \] where \(x_n(i)\) is the variable of the \(i\)th element at discrete time step \(n\), and \(f(x)\) is the internal dynamics of each element, \(\varepsilon\) is the coupling strength and \(N\) the control parameter of the GCM. The authors' goal is to study the nature of collective motion, using this globally coupled map. They show that with the change of the control parameters, the collective dynamics exhibit some sort of bifurcations.
