This paper is concerned with spectral properties of lattice Schrödinger operators on \(l^2({\mathbb Z})\) of the form \[ H = \lambda \cos(n\omega + \Theta)\delta_{nn'} + \Delta, \] and \[ H = \lambda \cos(\frac{n(n-1)}{2}\omega + nx_1 + nx_2)\delta_{nn'} + \Delta, \tag \(*\) \] where \(\Delta = \delta_{n(n'+1)} +\delta_{n(n'-1)}\), \(\lambda > 0\), \(\omega\) in general an irrational number, and \(x_1, x_2, \theta \in {\mathbb R}\). It is known that for certain values of \(\omega\) and \(\Theta\) the first Hamiltonian has a pure point spectrum for \(\lambda>2\) and singular or absolute continuous spectrum for \(\lambda \leq 2\). For the second Hamiltonian it is known that for fixed \(x_1, x_2\) and almost all \(\omega\) and all \(\lambda>0\) a pure point spectrum is present. Based on the author and \textit{M. Goldstein} [Ann. Math. (2) 152, 835--879 (2000; Zbl 1053.39035)], the author [in: Milman, V. D. (ed.) et al., Geometric aspects of functional analysis. Proceedings of the Israel seminar (GAFA) 1996-2000. Berlin: Springer. Lect. Notes Math. 1745, 37--66 (2000; Zbl 1160.81381)], the author [Ann. Math. (2) 156, 249--294 (2002; Zbl 1213.82054)], the author, \textit{M. Goldstein} and \textit{W. Schlag} [Acta Math. 188, 41--86 (2002; Zbl 1022.47023), Commun. Math. Phys. 220, 583--621 (2001; Zbl 0994.82044)] it is shown that for all \(\lambda > 0\), \(x_1 = x_2 = 0\), and \(\omega\) in a certain set of positive measure, the Hamiltonian \((*)\) has some point spectrum which is dense in a set of positive measure. Moreover, it is shown for a Hamiltonian of the general form \[ H = v(T^nx)\delta_{nn'} + \Delta, \] where \(T\) is a shift on \({\mathbb T}^d\), \(d>1\), and \(v\) an analytic function on \({\mathbb T}^d\), the spectrum has a positive measure if the Lyapunov exponent of the integrated density of states, i.e., the number of eigenvalues less than a variable given \(E \in {\mathbb R}\), is strictly positive for all \(E \in {\mathbb R}\).
