A right Novikov algebra is a right-symmetric algebra with commuting left-multiplications. An algebra is said to be a nil-algebra of index \(n\) if the identity \(x^n=0\) holds. It is called right-nilpotent if it satisfies the identity \(x_1x_2\cdots x_m=0\) for some integer \(m\). It is proved that a right-symmetric nil-algebra of index \(n\) over a field of characteristic zero is right nilpotent. Furthermore it is shown that a Novikov nil-algebra of index \(n\) is nilpotent. The proof uses Zelmanov's theorem asserting that a Lie algebra over a field of characteristic zero is nilpotent if it satisfies the \(n\)th Engel condition.
