The concept of \(u\)-convergence of multiple series of complex numbers was introduced by \textit{F. G. Arutjunjan} [Dokl. Akad. Nauk Arm. SSR 64, 72--76 (1977; Zbl 0356.42009) and Mat. Sb., N. Ser. 126(168), No. 2, 267--285 (1985; Zbl 0604.42031)]. We note that if a series is \(u\)-convergent, then it is convergent in Pringsheim's sense, and also convergent with respect to spheres, hyperbolic crosses, etc. The author proves four theorems for multiple Fourier series. Theorem 1. If \(m\geq 2\), \(2m/(m+ 1)< p<\infty\), \(p\neq 2\), \(f\in L_p(T^m)\), and its Fourier series of the form \[ \sum_{n\in\mathbb{Z}^m: n\geq 1} a_n(f) e^{in\cdot x} \] has monotone coefficients, then this series is \(u\)-convergent to \(f\) in the metric of \(L_p\). Theorem 2 says that the conclusion of Theorem 1 is no longer true if \(1< p\leq 2m/(m+ 1)\). Fourier series with nonnegative coefficients are discussed in Theorems 3 and 4.
