Let \(k\) denote a simple closed curve on a genus 2 surface \(F\) in a Heegard decomposition of \(S^3\). Let \(T'\) and \(T\) denote the genus 2 handlebodies of the decomposition. Denote by \(x',y'\) and \(x,y\), respectively, generators of \(\pi_1(T')\) and \(\pi_1(T)\). The author calls the knot \(k\) primitive/Seifert-fibered (PSF) if for \(T'\), \(k\) is a primitive element (part of a free basis) in \(\pi_1(T')\), and for \(T\), \(\pi_1(T)/\langle k\rangle \approx \langle x,y|x^ay^b\rangle\) for some integers \(a,b\). The author shows that PSF knots admit Dehn surgeries yielding Seifert-fibered spaces over \(S^2\) with at most 3 exceptional fibers (small Seifert-fiber spaces, SSFS). He goes on to show that given any triple of integers \((\mu_1,\mu_2,\mu_3)\) with \((\mu_1,\mu_2)=1\) there is a PSF knot (in fact a twisted torus knot) and SSFS arising therefrom, with these multiplicities.
