    Let \(T\) be an \(s\)-simplex in \(\mathbb{R}^s\). By \(V\) and \(\xi=(\xi_v)_{v \in V}\) there are denoted the set of vertices and the barycentric coordinates of \(T\), respectively. The Bernstein-Durrmeyer operator of degree \(n\) for a Jacobi weight \(\xi^\mu\) on \(T\) is the following \[ M^\mu_nf:=\sum_{|\alpha|=n} \begin{pmatrix} n \\ \alpha \end{pmatrix}\xi^\alpha \frac{\langle f, \xi^\alpha \rangle_\mu}{\langle 1, \xi^\alpha \rangle_\mu}, \] where \(\langle f, g \rangle_\mu=\int_V fg \xi^\mu\); \(f,g\in L_2(T,\xi^\mu)\). One of the main results of this paper (Theorem 3.2) says that \(\lim_{\mu \to -1^+}M^\mu_nf=U_nf\), where \(U_n:C(T)\to \Pi_n\) is an operator previously considered by Goodman \& Sharma (1991), and Gavrea (1996). Its proof is based upon a generalization of the multivariate beta integral. Such a result allows to investigate the operator \(U_n\) by taking limits conveniently. This approach is applied in the article to describe the eigenvalues and eigenspaces of \(U_n\), and to obtain new differentiation formulas.
