Let \(B\) be the unit ball in \(\mathbb R^n\). Given \(0<p<\infty\) and \(f\in L^1_{loc}\), let \(MO^pf(z)\) be the \(p\)-mean oscillation of \(f\) at \(z\in B\) with respect to Bergman balls with fixed radius. Let \(BMO^p\) be the space of all \(f\in L^1_{loc}\) such that \(MO^pf\) is bounded on \(B\). Also, let \(VMO^p\) be the space of all \(f\in BMO^p\) such that \(MO^pf\in C_0(B)\). While these spaces depend on \(p\), the authors point out that the intersection of \(BMO^p\), \(1\leq p<\infty\), with the space of harmonic functions is the harmonic Bloch space. In this paper, the authors obtain characterizations of multipliers taking a space \(BMO^p\) into another \(BMO^q\). The method of proof requires the restriction \(p, q\geq 1\). The characterization depends on the range of the exponents \(p, q\). First, for \(1\leq p<q<\infty\), it is shown that the only multiplier is the zero multiplier. For \(1\leq q\leq p<\infty\), the characterization is given in terms of natural integral quantities but splits into two cases: (i) \(1\leq p=q<\infty\) and (ii) \(1\leq q<p<\infty\). Then the authors provide a unified characterization of harmonic multipliers for \(1\leq q\leq p<\infty\). The authors also show that all the characterizations remain unchanged if \(BMO^p\) is replaced by \(VMO^p\).
