This survey article is mainly written for teachers to show some recent developments in applied mathematics. First the author describes some image-producing methods (like computer tomography, electrical impedance tomography, reconstruction of the shape of a scattering obstacle). Then some aspects of image processing are sketched (like image correction, segmentation, and image compression by means of discrete cosine transforms or discrete wavelet transforms).
