A \(\lambda\)-Hankel operator (\(\lambda\in\mathbb C\)) is an operator \(X\) satisfying \(S^*X-XS=\lambda X\), where \(S\) is the (unilateral) forward shift operator. It~is known that no nonzero \(\lambda\)-Hankel operators exist for \(|\lambda|\geq 2\); for \(|\lambda|<2\), examples of nonzero compact \(\lambda\)-Hankel operators were given by the first author [J. Funct. Anal. 190, 418-446 (2002; Zbl 1005.47031)]. The aim of the present paper is to show that for \(|\lambda|<2\) there exist non-compact \(\lambda\)-Hankel operators as well. Namely, the operator \(X\) with matrix entries given~by \[ \langle X e_m,e_n\rangle = \int_{\mathbb D\cap(\mathbb D-\lambda)} z^m (z+\lambda)^n d\mu(z) \] is a bounded \(\lambda\)-Hankel operator whenever \(\mu\) is a Carleson measure on both \(\mathbb D\) and \(\mathbb D-\lambda\); and this operator is not compact if one chooses for \(\mu\) a suitable atomic measure supported on an interpolating sequence in \(\mathbb D\cap(\mathbb D-\lambda)\).
