As in the following article by the same authors [see the following review], it is assumed that mental architecture is represented by a stochastic discrete directed acyclic PERT network. Several theorems are proved that describe which kinds of interactions can be expected for different networks when reaction times are measured in a factorial experiment. The proposed models allow for both concurrent and sequential mental processes. Depending on whether additivity (no interaction), superaddivity, or subadditivity is found for the mean reaction times, certain types of mental networks can be ruled out.
