We show that a free graded commutative Banach algebra over a (purely odd) Banach space \(E\) is a Banach-Grassmann algebra in the sense of Jadczyk and Pilch if and only if \(E\) is infinite-dimensional. Thus, a large amount of new examples of separable Banach-Grassmann algebras arise in addition to the only one example previously known due to A. Rogers. In superanalysis one is supposed to have at hand a ``ground'' algebra \(\Lambda\) serving as a supply of odd (anticommuting) constants; it is assumed to be a locally convex associative unital graded commutative algebra [see e.g. \textit{A. Yu. Khrennikov}, Russ. Math. Surv. 43, No. 2, 103--137 (1988); translation from Usp. Mat. Nauk 43, No. 2(260), 87--114 (1988; Zbl 0665.46031)], and, moreover, a local one [\textit{P. Bryant}, J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser 39, 347--368 (1989; Zbl 0636.58011)]. The property of convergence of the so-called superfield expansion [\textit{B. S. DeWitt}, ``Supermanifolds,'' London (1984; Zbl 0598.53001)] actually restricts the class of ground algebras to the complete multiplicatively convex algebras [\textit{R. Arens}, Pac. J. Math. 2, 455--471 (1952; Zbl 0047.35802)], and this way one comes to the notion of a graded local Arens-Michael, or GLAM, algebra [the author, J. Math. Phys. 32, No. 1, 24--32 (1991; Zbl 0693.17015)]. Among particularly convenient properties of ground algebras is the Jadczyk-Pilch self-duality property [\textit{A. Jadczyk} and \textit{K. Pilch}, Commun. Math. Phys. 78, 373--390 (1981; Zbl 0464.58006)]. The Banach algebras with that property --- the so-called Banach-Grassmann algebras --- have become popular recently; however, the Rogers algebra \(B_ \infty\) [\textit{A. Rogers}, J. Math. Phys. 21, 1352--1365 (1980; Zbl 0447.58003)] was essentially the only example of them. The present note adds a large amount of new examples of separable Banach- Grassmann algebras. They are just exterior algebras over Banach spaces endowed with a relevant norm and completed after that. We call this construction ``a free graded commutative Banach algebra over a Banach space.'' It was proposed by us earlier [the author, Rep. Math. Phys. (to appear; Zbl 0681.15014)]; here we study the structure of such algebras in more detail and show that a free graded commutative Banach algebra \(\bigwedge_ BE\) over a (purely odd) Banach space \(E\) is a Banach- Grassmann algebra if and only if \(\dim E=\infty\). Since \(\bigwedge_ B\ell_ 1=B_ \infty\) then oure result can be viewed as a (substantial) extension of a theorem from [\textit{A. Jadczyk} and \textit{K. Pilch}, Classical limit of CAR and self-duality in the infinite-dimensional Grassmann algebra, in: ``Quantum Theory of Particles and Fields'' (ed. by K. Jancewicz and J. Lukierski), World Scientific, Singapore (1983)].
