A single proof of coincidence of the \(K\)-theories of Quillen and Volodin is given for the linear orthogonal, and symplectic cases. The literature already contains some discussion of the coincidence of the \(K\)-groups of Quillen and Volodin in the orthogonal and symplectic cases [see \textit{A. I. Nemytov} and \textit{Yu. P. Solov'ev}, Algebra, Work Collect., dedic. O. Yu. Shmidt, Moskva 1982, 102-118 (1982; Zbl 0596.18009)], but not in detail. This paper attempts to meet the need for such discussion. The motivation for this is the important use of this result by the author [Leningr. Math. J. 1, No. 3, 741-764 (1990); translation from Algebra Anal. 1, No. 3, 172-195 (1989; Zbl 0731.19003)] to prove theorems on stabilization in orthogonal and symplectic \(K\)- theory. In this approach, the major difficulty presented is that of proving acyclicity for the space \(X(\varphi,R)\), which is a candidate for the role of the homotopic fiber in Quillen's plus construction for the group \(G(\varphi,R)\). We prove that this space is acyclic.
