Let \(\{\pi_ k\}^ \infty_{k=0}\) be a polynomial basis of the space \(C[a,b]\) of continuous functions on \([a,b]\) and let \(n_ k=\deg\pi_ k\) be the degree of the polynomial \(\pi_ k\). In a previous paper, the author showed that if \(\{\pi_ k\}\) is a basis, then there exists \(\varepsilon>0\) such that, beginning from some \(k_ 0\), \(n_ k\geq(1+\varepsilon)k\), \(k\geq k_ 0\). In the present paper, he showes that the above result is the best possible, i.e., that, for any \(\varepsilon>0\), one can construct a basis \(\{\pi_ k\}_ k\) such that \(\deg\pi_ k\leq(1+\varepsilon)k\).
