Reflection of elastic waves at the boundary of an elastic solid is studied. Employing the theory of propagation of singularity it is shown that if a \(P\) wave is incident on the boundary, both a \(P\) wave and an \(S\) wave are reflected from the boundary. There are two types of \(S\) waves. One of them is the \(SV\) wave which provides both \(P\) and \(S\) reflected waves. The other is the \(SH\) wave which reflects only an \(S\) wave.
