If \(G\) is a group and \(J\) is a principal ideal domain, an infinite \(JG\)- module \(A\) is said to be just-infinite if for each non-zero submodule \(A_ 1\) of \(A\) the index \(| A: A_ 1|\) is finite, and the intersection of all such submodules is zero. A torsion-free \(J\)-module \(A\) is \(\alpha\)-approximated if for a certain prime element \(\alpha\) of \(J\) all the indices \(| A: A\alpha^ n|\) are finite and \(\bigcap_{n\in\mathbb{N}}A\alpha^ n=0\). In this paper it is assumed that either \(J\) is the ring of integers or the group algebra of an infinite cyclic group over a finite field. First, the author proves that if \(G\) is a soluble group of automorphisms of an \(\alpha\)-approximated \(J\)-module \(A\), then \(G\) has a normal subgroup \(G_ 1\) of finite index whose commutator subgroup \(G_ 1'\) is nilpotent, and the module \(A\) has a finite series of \(G\)-invariant submodules such that \(G_ 1'\) acts trivially on the factors of this series. Let \({\mathfrak X}\) be the class of soluble groups \(G\) such that for every normal subgroup \(G_ 1\) of finite index the factor group \(G_ 1/G_ 1'\) has finite torsion-free rank. Using the previous result the author shows that if \(G\) is a group in the class \(\mathfrak X\) and \(A\) is a just- infinite \(JG\)-module such that \(C_ G(A)=1\), then \(G\) is polycyclic, provided that either \(A\) is \(J\)-torsion-free, or \(A\) is annihilated by a prime element of \(J\) and the centre of \(G\) is infinite. An example shows that the hypothesis that the centre of \(G\) is infinite cannot be avoided. A group \(G\) satisfies the weak minimal condition on normal subgroups if it does not have any infinite strictly descending chain of normal subgroups \(H_ 1>H_ 2>\dots\) in which all indices \(| H_ n: H_{n+1}|\) are infinite. It is proved that a residually finite torsion-free soluble group satisfying the weak minimal condition on normal subgroups is minimax.
