The author starts from a two-dimensional continuous time Markov chain, describing the evolution of a Lotka-Volterra prey-predator system. Guided by martingale considerations, the chain is replaced by a two-dimensional SDE with similar infinitesimal covariance structure, modified near the axes so as to prevent absorption. This equation is then proved to have a unique solution for all time, and simulation indicates that the solution approaches the deterministic equilibrium. The treatment contrasts with that of \textit{T. G. Kurtz}[Stochastic Processes Appl. 6, 223--240 (1978; Zbl 0373.60085)], the results with those of \textit{M. S. Bartlett}[Proc. 3rd Berkeley Symp. Math. Stat. Probab. 4, 81--109 (1956; Zbl 0070.15004)].
