    The author derives a sufficient condition for a one to one mapping \(f: D\to\mathbb{C}\) from a region \(D\) in the complex plane \(\mathbb{C}\) to be holomorphic without any restriction on boundedness or continuity. Notations and definitions. A mapping \(f: D\to\mathbb{C}\) satisfies condition \(K^{**}\) at a point \(z\in D\) if there exist five rays \(t_ i(z)\), \(i=1,2,3,4,5\) emanating from \(z\) such that each open half-plane contains at least two of the rays and \[ \lim_{{\Delta z\to 0}\atop{z+\Delta z\in\bigcup^ 5_{i=1}t_ i(z)}}\arg{f(z+\Delta z)-f(z) \over \Delta z} \] exists. Theorem. Let \(f: D\to\mathbb{C}\) be a one to one mapping which satisfies condition \(K^{**}\) at each point of \(z\in D\). Then \(f\) is holomorphic in \(D\). The discontinuous function in \(D=D_ 1\cup D_ 2\) \[ f(z)=\begin{cases} z, &z\in D_ 1 \\ z+1, &z\in D_ 2, \end{cases} \] where \(D_ 1=\{z\mid 0<x\leq 1/2,\;0<y<1\}\), \(D_ 2=\{z\mid 1/2<x<1,\;0<y<1\}\), shows that condition \(K^{**}\) is necessary. Likewise the function \[ f(z)=\begin{cases} {1\over z^ 4}, & z\neq 0\\ 0 &\text{otherwise,} \end{cases} \] which satisfies condition \(K^{**}\) in \(\mathbb{C}\) shows that the requirement of a one to one mapping is also essential.
