[This article is reviewed together with Zbl 0773.11062.] In his classical paper ``Jacobi sums as Größencharactere'', Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 73, 487--495 (1952; Zbl 0048.27001), \textit{A. Weil} has shown that Jacobi sums induce Hecke characters on \(K\) modulo \(m^ 2\). (Here \(K\) is the cyclotomic field of \(m\)-th roots of unity). Given such a Hecke character \(\rho\), \textit{R. Coleman} and \textit{W. McCallum} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 385, 41--101 (1988; Zbl 0654.12003)], have given formulas and computed the conductors of the local components of \(\rho\) at every place \({\mathfrak p}\) of \(K\), for \({\mathfrak p}/m\) and \(m\) odd. Here the author gives an explicit formula for the local components in terms of Hilbert symbols in case \(m=2^n\). In the first paper she uses this result to compute the conductor of \(\rho\) when \(m=2^n\). Both papers are interesting and very technical.
