The paper studies the dynamics of plane-strain thermomechanical deformations of a FCC single crystal under specific conditions of loading, initial state of imperfection, prestress, and temperature distribution. A rather exhaustive study of localized shearing in the form of shear bands is presented. The crystal material is assumed to exhibit a complex mechanical response with strain hardening, strain-rate hardening and thermal softening. The model used incorporates thermal softening in a previously devised modeling due to \textit{G. J. Weng} [Int. J. Solids Struct. 15, 861-870 (1979; Zbl 0424.73028)]. It is shown that some eight slip systems, which become soon active after the load is applied, contribute essentially equally to the plastic deformation of the crystal, while eight other slip systems do so, but they are active in a region different from that of the first group. The remaining four slip systems either stay inactive throughout the deformation process, or become active only at late stages of deformation. The paper exhibits numerically the maps of various parameters related to the shear-band formation.
