The problem of consistent aggregation is equivalent to the solution of the generalized rectangular bisymmetry functional equation. A solution is presented on such general structures that the set of all possible products (not just their quantity or value) may serve as outputs or inputs. There are, however, some surjectivity and injectivity assumptions which will be weakened in subsequent papers. The results are also specialized to the real continuous case. The Cobb-Douglas and CES production functions are treated in detail with discussion of the noncompatibility of even one aggregation by addition with Cobb-Douglas. Remarks on representativity close the paper.
