The author presents the researches of the French geometer Eugène Dewulf (1831-1896) on Islamic medieval manuscripts in mathematics. The paper includes a biography of Dewulf, a presentation of his contributions to geometry and archaeology and of his translations into French of the works of Steiner and Cremona. The author relates Dewulf's presence in Bougie (Algeria) which occasioned him the discovery of Muslim mathematical manuscripts. The correspondence of Dewulf with Cremona, Boncompagni and some Italian orientalists is mentioned.
