The paper contains a statistical analysis of mathematical publications in nineteenth century. The analysis is based on the ``Catalogue of scientific papers'' of the Royal Society of London [Cambridge University Press, vol. 1 (1908), vol. 19 (1925)]. Other sources, as the ``Jahrbuch über die Fortschritte der Mathematik'' (de Gruyter, Berlin, 1868-1942) are also considered. The authors discuss the relation between journal and book publications and the share of the mathematical publications of the total scientific literature of the nineteenth-century literature. They also present graphs on publication activity in 34 subareas of mathematics.
