The authors developed a lower-upper approximate factorization scheme for the solution of the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible flows. The scheme contains an iteration parameter that can be adjusted to improve the convergence rate. It is used in conjunction with implicit approximations and the concept of artificial compressibility for steady and unsteady flows. The optimum value of the iteration parameter cannot be determined in general, but it is shown in the paper, that useful values can be guessed. The solution is demonstrated for the case of the flow past a NACA 0012 profile.
